Tepezza (or teprotumumab) is an injectable drug for the treatment of thyroid eye disease (“TED”). Tepezza and Hearing Loss
A recent study found that nearly half of Tepezza users reported hearing-related issues within four Tepezza treatments. Patients’ complaints ranged from muffled hearing, hearing loss, the sensation of their ears being plugged, tinnitus (ringing of the ears), and autophony (perceiving your own voice as unusually loud).
A March 2021 study by the Endocrine Society announced found that that 65% of patients had reported some hearing loss after using Tepezza. Of the patients studied, 77% reported that they had never had an auditory impairment (hearing loss or otherwise) previously.
The risks associated with Tepezza appear to be more significant than its manufacturer, Horizon Therapeutics, led users to believe. Horizon Therapeutics has been aware of this published study of new research since March 2021. We believe the manufacturer knew or should have known of these risks prior to the publication of this study and failed to adequately warn users of these risks.
