Bio
Stephen J. Telken specializes in handling serious bodily injury and wrongful death claims arising from dangerous products, dangerous premises, trucking/vehicle accidents, medical malpractice, and other acts of corporate and individual negligence.
Earlier in his career, Telken devoted a significant amount of his practice to handling claims for injured railroad and river workers, under the Federal Employer’s Liability Act (FELA) and Jones Act. Telken successfully litigated claims against the major railroads and barge/towing companies, resulting in substantial jury verdicts and sizeable settlements.
Since co-founding Walton Telken in 2009, Telken has focused on medical malpractice, trucking accidents, and chemical exposure claims on behalf of individuals, successfully resolving cases in various jurisdictions and venues in Missouri and Illinois.
Telken’s notable cases include a nearly $30,000,000 judgment for a client injured by negligent medical care as well as multiple other million-dollar plus recoveries. Telken’s zealous client advocacy and longstanding trial success has won him recognition by his peers as a Leading Lawyer.
When not working, Telken enjoys spending time with family and friends, golfing, and tending to chores around the house. He is a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, in Belleville, Illinois and a former member of the Board of Directors of Caritas, a non-profit organization serving vulnerable children and families throughout Southern Illinois.
Telken graduated from Rockhurst College with an undergraduate degree in Finance and Economics. He earned his law degree (J.D.) and a Masters degree in Business Administration (M.B.A.) from St. Louis University.
Telken is licensed in Illinois and Missouri, as well as the federal courts in the Southern District of Illinois, the Eastern District of Missouri, and the Court of Appeals for the 7th Judicial Circuit. He regularly appears in the state courts of Illinois and Missouri. Telken belongs to several professional organizations including the Missouri Bar, the Illinois Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Missouri Trial Lawyers Association.
