The company’s recall was issued voluntarily after contaminations from microorganisms were found that could possibly cause eye or skin infections. The Honest Company informed the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about the possible contamination and received guidance from the FDA regarding how to properly issue a recall.

The Honest Company’s baby powder is advertised as a natural product that serves as an alternative to traditional brands. Until the recall, the baby powder had been on store shelves since April 2016.
