Bio

Micah S. Summers was born and raised in Litchfield, Illinois. After graduating Litchfield High School in 1996, he attended McKendree University where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. While at McKendree Micah authored and had published his senior thesis titled “How Congressmen’s Reaction to the Rosenberg Trial was an Aberration of the Red Scare.” After graduating McKendree, Micah took a year off and worked in residential construction and asbestos abatement and removal to earn money for law school. In 2001 he enrolled at Southern Illinois University Law School where he received his Juris Doctor Degree in 2004. He presently lives in the Village of Glen Carbon with his wife and their two children.

Micah has been engaged in the practice of law since 2004. Micah began his legal career with an appointment to a position as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Madison County. He quickly rose to the level of Supervising Attorney for the DUI/Misdemeanor/Traffic Division, while also handling a felony case load of approximately 50 felony cases. While at the Madison County State’s Attorney’s office, Micah was a member of the Third Judicial Circuit Family Violence Coordinating Committee. Micah received the annual Partners in Peace Award in 2005 for authoring the Domestic Violence Investigation Protocol for all Madison Community Law Enforcement, and maintaining a dedication to eliminating Domestic Violence. Additionally, Micah was a member of the Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee and provided regular instruction and training to local police departments on investigation techniques for Domestic Violence and DUI cases, as well as providing updates on Illinois law relating to search and seizure issues.

After leaving the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office he joined a mid-size law firm in Edwardsville, Illinois where he concentrated his practice in criminal defense and general civil litigation. His criminal practice at the firm focused on the defense of criminal charges including Misdemeanor and Felony charges, Driving Under the Influence Violations (DUI), as well as Traffic citations.

Micah now focuses his practice to representing individuals and estates having claim(s) of personal injury, wrongful death, workers’ compensation benefits, and social security disability benefits. Micah has litigated civil cases in various Circuit Courts in Southern Illinois. He has also litigated cases for injured workers before the Illinois Industrial Commission. In addition, he has represented clients at appeal hearings before the Office of Hearings and Appeals of the Social Security Administration. Micah has extensive trial experience. He has litigated more than fifty cases to a Judge or Jury for numerous clients in criminal and civil cases across the State of Illinois. In addition he is also an adjunct instructor for the Paralegal Program at Southwestern Illinois College.

Micah comes from a working class family. His grandfather and uncles were all truck drivers belonging to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. His mother raised him as a single mom until the age of twelve, working night shifts at the local factory while putting herself through college to become a paralegal. Many times Micah would attend college courses with her due to his mother having no alternative child care thereby being exposed to a legal education at a very young age. Micah also saw at a young age how an injury of a family member can put financial and emotional stress on an individual and his or her family when he lost an uncle who passed away while driving his semi-tractor trailer. It was from these experiences that Micah was drawn to the legal profession with the desire to help individuals who are injured from another’s negligence, whether that be by another person or large corporation.

Micah also has a strong desire to be involved in his community and charitable causes. Micah is a past board member of the Metro East Humane Society. He currently serves on the advisory board of the Christian Activity Center which serves as an after school program for children ages 5-18 in Edwardsville. Micah is also an Edwardsville Township Democratic Precinct Committeeman for precinct 19, and current President of the Edwardsville Township Democratic Club.

When he is not working, Micah enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys bike riding, playing basketball and baseball, and following the St. Louis Cardinals. He also serves as Trustee on the Village Board of Glen Carbon where he helps shape the community that his family calls home.
